Global hotel brand Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts is looking at expanding in India by opening luxury resorts on management contract in tourist destinations like Goa, Kerala and Rajasthan.
Four Seasons has entered into a strategic tie-up with Noida-based developer 3C Company to set up its third city hotel in the country in Noida by 2014. It will have 250 keys. The two partners have signed an exclusive deal wherein Four Seasons would not create any other property in Delhi and Noida for the next 25 years.

Four Seasons already has a 210-key luxury hotel operational at Worli in Mumbai. The second property, a 250-key hotel, is coming up in Bangalore, and will be ready by 2013.

“We are mainly looking at opening luxury resorts in key tourist destinations because the charges are pretty low in cities other than Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore. So, it will not be viable for us to open hotels other than in these three metros. Since Goa, Kerala and Rajasthan are important tourist destinations, we are looking at setting up luxury resorts there. Rajasthan, in fact, can have more than one resort,” said Christopher Wong, VP, development, Asia Pacific, Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts.

Wong said that the company intends to open at least three resorts in the next two to three years. “The kind of services and product that we offer, we are always looking for the right partner and the right location. We always try to put the brand equity on top when we decide on possible partners and locations,” Wong said.

Wong explained that the chain does not make any investment in setting up a new property. “We give the brand name and management support, while the rest is taken up by the developer. We get a fee for that and the profit belongs to the developer,” he said.

Japan-based restaurateur Anil Kumar M V returned to India last week after fears of radiation contamination forced to shut his shop. He returned to Bangalore with five of his Indian staff last week to allay the fears of the families but all have the intention to go back to Japan and into the business of educating Japanese about South Indian food. Speaking exclusively to TNIE, Anil said: “I would first like to say that I live in Tokyo, which was relatively unaffected by the earthquake. More importantly, I think the foreign media is giving exaggerated reports about the conditions in Japan and Japanese media has underplayed the incidents to avoid panic among the people the truth lies somewhere in between.”This techie-turned-entrepreneur was posted in Japan on a bank

assignment but was not able to survive the Japanese food or the naan-roti routine that passed off for Indian food.

“I started Nirvanam to cater to the Indian population there and we specialised in SouthIndian cuisine. Not just the Indians, but the Japanese too loved the food. They liked the South Indian food as it was rice-based and they loved the Kerala stew,” he said. But the last few weeks were not so good as initially the government asked people not to give water supplied to the citizens to children because it contained traces of radiation contamination. “The disaster management system is very efficient in Japan. Bottled water was supplied to all. Since, several radiation-contaminated areas were asked not to sell grains and other food supplies, we were running short,” he said describing how food supplies were rationed in all

areas.

Hence, we had to take the decision to close down the restaurant. Indians living in Japan came together to help their Japanese friends by importing supplies. In front of his two restaurants and on his website Anil has announced to reopen on April 11. “We are closely monitoring the situation and we hope to open soon.” it says.
